The Aqua Marina Magma is on fire with its versatile use
The Aqua Marina Magma is an incredibly nice board to get on the water with. A popular all-around board with a striking orange color that is versatile, has a great design and comes with a complete package.
Pro’s
- Allround-board for beginners and more advanced SUP boarders
- Upon purchase you get a complete package so you do not have to incur extra costs to start
- Higher kicktail for easier turning
- Lightweight product that is easy to carry and inflate
- Is wonderful for touring
Cons
- Not so agile due to its width and length
- The board is not fast enough for the advanced SUP boarder (5+ years experience)
Most suitable for:
So the first thing I feel I need to disclose is the similarity of the several Aqua Marina All-Around Stand Up Paddle Boards. You might have noticed I have reviewed the next four boards:
- Aqua Marina Magma
- Aqua Marina Atlas
- Aqua Marina Triton
- Aqua Marina Beast
These boards are a lot alike because they are all in the same series. The Atlas is a longer touring board than the other 3, so it is obvious this is a special category. But what is the difference between the Aqua Marina Magma, Aqua Marina Triton and the Aqua Marina Beast?
Not that much really, it is mostly the design and 6″ of length that separates them:
Aqua Marina Beast: 10’6″
Aqua Marina Magma: 11’2″
Aqua Marina Triton: 11’2″ (discontinued)
The maximum weight varies from 308 lbs to 330 lbs and the width, thickness, technology, package and air pressure of these boards are all the same.
The Triton is more into the touring side of Stand Up Paddle boards and the Beast is a bit more suited for catching waves. The Magma is the middle board of this again. But honestly will this 6″ of length make such a huge difference? To me it did not feel like it.
If you are looking for any of these 3 boards, I would recommend you to just take the cheapest one because they are so similar to each other. Unless you really prefer one design over the others.
Lets move on with the actual review of the Aqua Marina Magma now!
The Aqua Marina Magma is an all-around inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board with a size of 11’2″ x 33″ and a thickness of 6″ that performs well on the water and is very stiff.
This board has a weight of 20.9 lbs and a maximum carrying capacity of 330 lbs. So it is possible to carry along a pet or child if you wish so, depending on the goal of your trip.
As said this is really an in between board, so as all-around as possible to accommodate a wide spectrum of activities. (I almost feel smart using words like that!).
I liked this board for paddling around while relaxing along the shore on my holiday. It is easier to make turns because of the kick pad. You can lean back, lift the front up a bit and make a quick turn.
Length | Width | Thickness | Max weight load | Weight board |
11’2″ | 33″ | 6″ | 330 LBS / 150 kg | 20.9 LBS / 9.5 kg |
Primary use
All Round / Yoga / Touring / Relaxing
Speed on the water
The board is pretty long, but also wide. Perfect for small tours and catching waves but not suited for racing.
Transport
It is very easy to transport this SUP because it is inflatable and light. Even on your back if you go with a bicycle.
Stability
The board is stable on the water and the weight capacity of 330 lbs is even enough to take a pet or a child along.
My own experience
I like the Aqua Marina Magma the same way I like the Triton and the Beast, great for just paddling around and a very stiff board. They perform better than the cheaper versions, the Breeze/Vapor/Fusion and have the added kick pad for easier turning.
Like I mentioned in a different review I prefer the Aqua Marina Atlas as it is bigger and it enables me to take along a friend for the trip. But for all-around activities the Aqua Marina Magma is a great choice.
However, for catching waves and sharp turns this board is way better. So if you want action this board is the way to go!
The style of the Magma is newer and adapted to modern times, in comparison to the older version of the board. I really like the new design, the orange and white will surely attract attention and is also great for safety reasons!
However, of these boards the Aqua Marina is best suited for touring.
Where the Aqua Marina Fusion and Vapor models are sold very often and have many fans, more and more people are looking for a slightly wider and more stable board with a length of 10’10”.
The thickness of 6″ and the width of 33″ of the Aqua Marina Magma make it an extremely stable paddle board and the board feels very stiff, if it is inflated to the recommended pressure of 15 PSI.
Especially suitable for touring and to take along some extra gear, a child or a pet on your trip.
The board feels very solid and stable, which is of course necessary for longer trips. I like the big EVA-deck so I have grip everywhere.
The addition of the kick tail (just like the Aqua Marina Beast, Triton and Atlas) is great and makes it a lot easier to make turns on the water.

In the package
Paddle
The Aqua Marina Magma stand up paddle board is delivered including an Aqua Marina Sports III Paddle. The Sports III Paddle is an aluminum paddle in 3 parts, that can be height adjusted so it is always on the right length.
To be fair, if you are planning to take long touring trips on the Aqua Marina Magma, you should look at a Carbon Paddle or a Glassfiber one that has more quality than this one.
Pump
The Aqua Marina Double Action Pump makes sure the job gets done as soon as possible, as it inflates both when the pump is pulled up and when it is pressed down.
Leash
The board includes a simple Aqua Marina paddle board leash. A straightforward leash without a coil, that is always extended. This version is not as good as the coiled version that is sold separately, but for a free included leash it is good enough.
Backpack
The Aqua Marina Magic Backpack makes it easy to carry your SUP board with you. It really is a basic backpack without luxury soft cover and which is not too sturdy. You can certainly carry your SUP board with you, but you donβt have to put extra stuff in it, otherwise it could tear through. In the long run it is better to buy a higher quality backpack.
Optional accessories (not included)
Restube classic
Because extra safety measures never hurt anyone!
Aqua Marina Bluedrive Power fin
For those who are too lazy to paddle themselves π
Difference between an Inflatable board and a Hard board
Advantages Inflatable board
- Easy to take on holiday (even on the plane)
- Easy to store in the winter days
- Much cheaper
- Technology has improved greatly over the past 10 years. For this reason, these boards are now almost hard to distinguish from hard boards
Advantages Hardboard
- More speed, which is important if you are a professional
- Easier to make sharp turns on the water because the board is thinner
- No inflation needed, you can get on the water right away

Does the pump have a PSI gauge?
Hi Kati,
The pump does indeed have a PSI gauge on it!
Have fun on your paddle board!
Tom
Between Magma and the Beast, wich one You prefer ???
Choose one.
Hi Goran,
Thanks for your message!
There is little difference between these, but I would pick the Magma.
As it is slightly bigger it offers some extra stability, as I mostly go on lakes for paddling I do not need the extra agility.
If I would go to the sea more often I would pick the Beast because of this.
Which one do you like more?
Hope you’re having some paddling fun this summmer!
Tom
Thanks a lot.
Finally i find right and superb review of these paddles.
Now i have chance to buy one of them at great discount price, but i’m stuck between BEAST and MAGMA.
I’m 76 – 78 kg weight, my wife 65 kg and son 65 kg too.
I live at the Adriatic sea and we have here very small to small/mid sized waves, speedboat waves and flat sea. Nothing to surf on it.
Once, twice a year waves are bigger but this is rarely. Sometimes my son want to play with paddle on the beach and longest distances to paddling will be 1 – 5 km.
I like playfulness and my wife cruising so its must be “one fits all” paddle
Sometimes my wife and son want to sit together on the same paddle, or my son and me, but also very rarely.
Would You kindly please recommend me wich one to choose: Beast or Magma.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Hi Goran,
Great that you like my reviews!
From what you are telling me I would pick the Magma in your case, as you also want to use it together and you want it for cruising.
For these cases the Magma is a better option than the beast as it is a bit bigger and more stable for these purposes.
Hope you can get a great deal on it!
Thank You for fast answer.
I’ve been on right way to buy Beast, but now Magma is way to go.
Keep doin’ great reviews.
Regards
P.S.
Is Magma also good for some playfulness (making short turns etc.) ?
Can you make short turns with Magma too ?
Hi Goran,
Surely this is possible, but slightly more difficult with the Magma than with the Beast because it is a bit longer. But from reading your story other factors are more important in this case, you will still manage well on the water.
Let me know how it goes!
Tom
Can it be used by two people of normal weight?
