The ultimate paddle board racing experience

The Bluefin Sprint 14′ is a long and slim paddle board meant specifically for racing and higher-speed paddling. The shape and the streamlined design ensure that you can easily cut through the water and still keep your stability.

However, this board has so many D-rings (19!) and a carrying capacity of 353 LBS / 160 kg, which ensures you can also take a lot of gear in case you would like to go for a longer trip or even overnight camping. The two bungee cords (extra big one in the front) will make sure you can take all the luggage you need.

The extra D-rings in the middle even allow you to attach a kayak seat (not included as it is primarily a racing board) in case you want to just sit down and tour around. Even paddling with two people at the same time would be possible with the pretty high carrying weight.

Next to the paddle the board includes a coiled leash, double action pump, backpack, waterproof phone case and a repair kit.

For this price (currently $699 – $765) it is the most complete inflatable racing Stand Up Paddle Board on the market. If you are looking for a touring or racing paddle board you should surely read this review and decide if this board is for you.

Bluefin has decided to replace the Sprint SUP with the amazing Nitro 14′ SUP! You can hurry up and buy the Sprint SUP before it sells out, or get to know the Nitro 14′ better by reading my review and choosing that one for your speedy paddling!

The Bluefin Sprint is most suitable for:

The Bluefin Sprint is a very long and stiff inflatable paddle board that offers you a whole new experience than you’ve been accustomed to on your all-around paddle board. Of course you will have less stability because the board is less wide, but this makes it to be streamlined better so you are able to reach higher levels of speed.

As with all Bluefin boards they offer this board for a very good price for what you get. Racing boards rarely come in complete packages and this one surely is as complete as it can get. Compared to other racing boards this 14′ board is also rather cheap, even though the construction is just as rigid.

Since this board is aimed at racing, the board is less wide and it offers less stability. That is why I would not recommend this board for beginners, but only for advanced paddlers that know how to keep balance while paddling fast. The board has a maximum weight of 353 lbs / 160 kg, so it should be possible to paddle together (probably less fast though!).

If you want to go out touring this is also a very decent board for this purpose. With the big bungee cord in the front and a smaller one in the back this offers all the luggage space you need to take along your camping gear and set up your tent for a night. (Guys I can recommend you to take your date or girlfriend to a small island, it was the most romantic night ever!).

The thickness of 6.3″ adds some of the stability that the board lacks because of the width of only 28″ and makes sure it is strong enough to hold you without bending.

This board offers amazing value for money and it is hard to find a 14′ long racing board with this quality for this price. Bluefin offers an amazing 5 year warranty on all of their boards! (only matched by Red Paddle). They also offer 1 year manufacturing warranty on the included accessories.

So if you are going for a racing board, go for high quality and might as well get the most complete one too!

If you are looking for a racing Stand Up Paddle board of high quality in a very complete package for a good price this is your best choice!

Bluefin Sprint Review 2

Speed on the water
The board is designed for speed with the 14′ length, the width of only 28″ and the pointy front. The best board for speed and meant to cut right through the water with a long glide.

Bluefin Sprint Review 3

Transport
The board has a weight of 28.7 LBS / 13 kg and is not hard to carry in the supplied backpack with comfortable padded straps.

Bluefin Sprint Review 4

Stability
The 28″ width is clearly aimed fully at speed and less at stability, so this board is not suitable for beginners that don’t know how to keep their balance!

My own experience

Lately I have tried a lot of All-Around Stand Up Paddle Boards and honestly I was happy to switch that up a bit and getting to try this racing model. Getting too used to all those stable All-Around boards the Bluefin Sprint even felt a bit wobbly for me at the start, can you imagine how long it has been?

Of course there were a lot of things to unpack like with the other boards, just a bit less because there was no kayak seat included with this one. The D-rings are right there on the board though for attaching your seat, but because the main function is a racing board you have to purchase the kayak seat separately.

After I unpacked everything I went on with inflating the Bluefin Sprint. It took me exactly 6,5 minutes to inflate this board to 18 PSI, a bit longer than the other ones because this board is bigger! Since I did not tape every single SUP I inflated that day, here is a video of me inflating the Bluefin Cruise, which works the same way!

Check out this extreme short inflation movie of the Bluefin Cruise, but the Bluefin Sprint works exactly the same.

The Bluefin Sprint is easy to carry around as it is not that heavy for its size. As I tested the Bluefin Sprint together with the other boards it felt less stable and at times a bit wobbly compared to the 32.9″ wide boards, but at higher speeds it starts feeling more stable.

The fiberglass paddle is great for this board, I would not recommend anyone to use a racing paddle boarding with a heavy aluminium paddle as it is very exhausting and your arms will start to hurt. An upgrade to an even lighter carbon paddle would actually be preferred.

Just like the Bluefin Cruise Carbon the Bluefin Sprint has bungee cords in both the front and in the back. The front bungee cord is extra big and uses 8-D rings, where the back one only takes up 4 D-rings. You can imagine how much stuff you can take!

The croco-diamond grip deck feels great and I never felt like losing my grip while paddling, even on higher speeds. The kick pad on the back allows you to lean back a bit and lift up the front to make those sharper turns. With a board this long it is always harder to turn and that is why having a kick pad on these boards is a must.

Because of the size and the shape I managed to build up quite a lot of speed (I should start measuring this!) and reached the other side of the lake pretty quickly. The combination of the length, the pointy nose and the three fin system make it really easy to float over the water rapidly with little friction or resistance.

My girlfriend and I have shortly tried this out together and the board feels like it can hold two persons of our size. However it can get a bit wobbly when you are both moving to different sides of the board, so be careful with this when you go out together.

I can recommend this board if you are into racing or if you like touring and you are a bit more experienced in paddle boarding. Do you prefer more stability and relaxation? Check out the Bluefin Cruise Paddle Board instead. If you want to go out and paddle together you should check out the 15′ size of the Bluefin Cruise.

Material
The board is made out of 1000 Denier Exo Surface Laminate PVC & Pro Weave Drop Stitch. 11200 stitches of 500 denier space yarn per square metre make for one rigid board.

Design
This board has a nice blue an white design with a big black Croco-Diamond Deck pad + Kick Pad

In the package

Paddle

The paddle that is included with the Bluefin Sprint is a Bluefin height adjustable fiberglass paddle, which is lightweight and very strong because of the material. With a light paddle it is easier to reach higher speeds without your arms getting tired too quickly.

Pump

The Bluefin Sprint includes a very easy and comfortable double action hand pump. True, this is not as effective as the Triple action pump that is included with the Bluefin Carbon Cruise. But since I inflated this board in only 6,5 minutes with this pump do you really need a better one?

Best SUP Pumps for 2024

Bluefin-Double-Action-Pump

Leash

The Bluefin Sprint paddle board leash is a coiled leash, which is great because it only extends if you actually fall in the water. So it is never in your way when you are paddling. The leash can easily be connected to the D-ring on the back of the board. I like the extra thick padding on the inside so it does not scrape your leg.

Bluefin-Coiled-Leash

Backpack

The Bluefin paddle board backpack is very comfortable because of the extra back and strap padding on the extra wide straps. It has some handy outside pockets and the zippers are webbing reinforced. This can easily hold your Bluefin Sprint paddle board and all the included accessories. Compared to the Bluefin Cruise Carbon this is light as a feather 😉

Difference between an Inflatable board and a Hard board

Advantages Inflatable board

  • Easy to take on holiday (even on the plane)
  • Easy to store in the winter days
  • Much cheaper
  • Technology has improved greatly over the past 10 years. For this reason, these boards are now almost hard to distinguish from hard boards

Advantages Hardboard

  • More speed, which is important if you are a professional
  • Easier to make sharp turns on the water because the board is thinner
  • No inflation needed, you can get on the water right away

Other reviews of the Bluefin Sprint 14′ Paddle Board online

The Bluefin Sprint is a great Stand Up Paddle board for racing, which means it has quite a few reviews online.

A short overview of some of these reviews below:

Thisadventurelife.com: “I absolutely love this board. It’s fast, perfect for travel and easy to set up. As I travel quite a bit, I keep it in my car to have it ready to go at any time I’m near open water and am craving a paddle session. If you are looking for a quality, affordable, inflatable board that is also a lot of fun to tour, look no further than BlueFin. You won’t be disappointed!”

Thebombsurf.com: “For paddlers that are getting ready to race and join faster paddlers or want to have an easier time when hitting the open water or choppy oceans, the Blue Fin Sprint 14″is a great addition to your stand up paddleboarding quiver.”

Inflatableboarder.com: “The new Bluefin SUP Sprint is a fast and feature-rich 14′ touring board that’s designed for speed, long-distance paddles, and hauling large amounts of gear for overnight SUP expeditions…..The 14′ Sprint comes loaded with all of the features that we look for in an inflatable touring iSUP.”

Amazon.com: Rating 4.4/5. “Glides better than beginner boards and will take at least 160kg. With lots of tie down points and easy glide is great for long trips. The length and weight capacity make it good for taking an extra person if you wish to…though I have to admit you probably notice the lack of width a bit more here if you both try to stand at the same time. Less of an issue if you are sharing with a child or you take turns with one standing and one kneeling. It’s also a few kg lighter to lug around than dedicated tandem boards.

At a similar price to a lot of the entry sups it glides better and allows two people to share well enough at a cheaper price than the larger boards that are more focused on tandem. Great solo sup and versatile all-rounder for the price. Active online owners community and Bluefin are pretty quick to answer questions / resolve issues on Facebook etc.” – Based on 25 customer reviews as on 19th of May 2020.

Conclusion – Should I buy the Bluefin Sprint?

The market for racing paddle boards is quite smaller than the one for all-around paddle boards. I consider the Bluefin Sprint as one of the top boards in the paddle board racing segment and by far the most complete one when it comes to the whole package. Looking at the relatively low price it is surely worth the purchase if you want to start racing on the water.

Where racing boards often come without any gear, as the suppliers assume you are experienced and already have your own paddle and leash, the Bluefin Sprint includes all accessories right away in the package.

Not only is the board very stiff and streamlined to achieve higher speeds, the height adjustable fiberglass paddle, coiled leash, double action hand pump, comfortable backpack, action camera mount, big grip deck with kick pad, 3 fins and 19 D-rings make this an insanely complete board unlike any other racing paddle board.

With the 5 year warranty you can be sure about the high quality of your Bluefin Sprint. If something would ever happen to the board you can contact the superb customer service of Bluefin who will solve your problem easily. A repair kit is also supplied with the package in case an immediate repair would be necessary.

The price of $699 (around $765) is a great price for a board that is this strong and stiff and even includes a fiberglass paddle and leash it is almost a steal. The next best thing is the Red Paddle Elite, which will cost you $1.599 without a paddle or leash included, good luck with that!

Are you ready to start picking up those higher speeds? Then the Bluefin Sprint is the best choice you can make for your next board. But don’t believe me on my word, go out on the water and enjoy the beautiful nature while you race by! Ready, set, Sprint!

What are your thoughts about the Bluefin Sprint Paddle Board? Have you tried a racing board yet or do you just prefer relaxing and all-around paddle boards?

And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for all the latest updates and news on paddleboarding. We love seeing our readers out on the water, so tag us in your photos and share your adventures with the SUPworld community. Happy paddling, everyone!

If you have, which racing boards would you recommend to me? This market is quite a bit smaller, especially if you want a 14′ long board. What would you pick to do this? Let me know in the comments, I’m looking forward to your inspiration!
