So, right now, I’m going to give a review of the Blackfin CX Ultra Model. Since the iRocker has made a new development with this model, I am very excited to try it and write a review finally. First, I’d like to point out that when you receive this paddleboard, you may wonder if the package contains the paddleboard you ordered because the Blackfin CX Ultra was packed in that tiny box with all of the included accessories.
You can easily transport this SUP board because it fits in the backseat of a car or your storage area. At the same time, it is a portable SUP board. If you want a premium paddleboard that is lightweight, stiff and performs well, the Blackfin CX Ultra might be the one for you! I’ll go into more detail below, so make sure to read to the end. First and foremost, the Blackfin CX Ultra paddleboard stands out because it is a lightweight SUP board. Aside from that, this board is compact and durable, and because it is portable, you can take it anywhere, whether you’re going on a hike or to any destination you want! Blackfin has never failed to impress me in terms of performance and features.
The Blackfin CX Ultra paddleboard provides above-average tracking and speed while not sacrificing maneuverability. I’m also pleased that this SUP board comes with high-quality accessories, particularly that they finally include a 12V Electric SUP pump, which will make inflating easy and painless! That is a significant advancement in this model in my opinion.
This is ideal for riders who paddle in flat water with a cop or mild ocean waves. By far the fastest paddleboard in the Blackfin line. This, like all Blackfin SUP boards, is intended for both novice and experienced paddlers. It has a weight capacity of 145 kg / 320 lbs, so you might be able to ride it with another passenger.

This lightweight SUP board contributes to its speed on the water. You can paddle with ease, and it picks up speed with just a few strokes without requiring too much effort. If you want a SUP board with a little more speed while still maintaining stability and maneuverability.

Stability
The Blackfin CX Ultra Paddleboard is also built to be stable. Having said that, this would keep paddlers confidently on their feet. The Ultra may be as stable as the iRocker 10’6 Cruiser, but it is much more responsive. This SUP is far more stable than the iRocker 11′ All-Around.
My own experience
The Blackfin CX Ultra should be one of your top choices if you’re looking for a lighter paddleboard. I was really happy when I got this board because it was easy for me to transport and portable at the same time. I like how small the backpack is! Storing this Paddleboard was never a problem for me, and I believe that is one of the most important benefits to consider.
Performance-wise, I am impressed with this versatile paddleboard. It’s a stable paddleboard that will keep you upright while paddling. The speed is excellent without compromising the paddleboard’s tracking and maneuverability while paddling. You don’t have to exert too much effort to achieve the required speed.
The Blackfin CX Ultra’s stiff construction aids in keeping this SUP moving in a straight line without requiring too much adjusting from the paddler. I’m also pleased that they have finally updated their pump to be electric, making it much easier to inflate the paddleboard without expending too much energy.

The Blackfin CX Ultra has a high-quality construction that is coated with three composite layers of PVC. As a result, this SUP board is stiff and long-lasting. Another feature of the SUP board is the use of a carbon fiber rail layer, which makes the board rigid and resistant to punctures or damage.
The Blackfin CX Ultra comes with detachable bungee cargos. It now includes a clip to make attaching cargo easier for paddlers. It also has a three-handle system, as seen on other Blackfin Line models.
There are also numerous D-rings where you can easily attach any accessories or a kayak seat in case you get tired standing up paddling. Although the kayak seat is not included in the package, it is very simple to install. It also has three action mounts where you can attach your sports camera and begin documenting your experience while paddling on the water.
The Blackfin CX Ultra Deck pad is soft and comfortable, providing a secure grip as you shift or move your feet on the board. The deck pad is divided in the middle, making it easy to fold in half. The Blackfin CX Ultra’s fins are new 9″ twin fins with a snap-lock fin box and a locking tether to prevent loss.
Finally, the Blackfin CX Ultra comes with excellent accessories! These are high-quality accessories that include an improved compact backpack, leash, Fins, a 5-piece carbon shaft paddle with a nylon blade, and an accessory pouch where you can store the SUP board’s Fins. Thanks for detailed review. Curious to better understand why it only scores 8.2 when you have nothing negative to say about it? I have just received the ultra cx and very impressed with the build quality, and love the weight and packed size. Looks great too. But, I find the stability is not great for use in the sea. In only very mild conditions I’m getting tipped off the board often. I am wondering if you had any negative experience with stability, and whether it is likely the heavier boards are more stable, or if it is the shape that matters – strange you say the wider irocker cruiser is less stable.. .
What A Weird Paddle Board!
Full disclosure – I didn’t buy my CX Ultra but received it as a replacement for a faulty BlackFin Model V.
The CX Ultra is a really weird board, and not in a good way. Frankly, I don’t know who this board is meant for. BlackFin have made some interesting design choices, but sadly none of them really work.
The board is sold as being ultra-light, portable and compact, and even has a five-piece paddle to save even more space. The backpack is well padded, so it’s ideal for travel.
But, the CX Ultra only comes with an electric pump. There is NO MANUAL PUMP, so any increased portability is completely redundant. Unless you buy a manual pump, you need to have access to a car or external 9V battery to inflate it, so don’t expect to be taking it up to any distant waters, unless you drive, of course!
The paddle itself has five sections, and the release buttons are exactly where a taller person would place their hands. This makes smooth paddling very difficult, and you could even find yourself losing a section of paddle mid-stroke.
The board folds lengthways for storage. This means there is a significant gap in the center of the deck pad which is where you may be stepping when doing tail turns. Also, folding the board lengthways means the valve is inaccessible, making the last bit of deflation tricky. There’s always a little bit of air left in a deflated paddle board and it all needs to come out to pack your board away. What used to be an easy task is now much fiddlier.
Speaking of folding the board away, this is far from easy when compared to a regular paddle board. The board wrinkles badly and the two halves do line up neatly, making it much harder to pack away than a conventional board.
Because of the central fold, the carry handle is off-center, so you no longer have a reliable reference point for foot placement. Also, it means the handle is right where you might want to kneel. The offset handle also makes carrying the board more awkward. It’s either too high or too low, so it’s not easy to hold.
I don’t know who this board is made for. It’s light but no manual pump means that lightness is irrelevant as you can’t really take it anywhere remote. It packs down small, but you won’t be taking the board far from your car so that’s not much benefit, either. It’s sold as being a fast board, but it’s actually pretty wide and not particularly streamlined, so it isn’t made for speed.
I’ve bought several boards from iRocker and BlackFin and except for one poorly made model V, I’ve been very happy with all of them. However, this BlackFin CX Ultra is a complete misfire and will soon be returned or sold on as it’s a very badly designed product.
Sadly, my brand new CX Ultra also had some manufacturing issues, and a couple of the deck fittings were not stuck down properly. This is not what I expect from a premium product, and the precise reason that I needed to replace my Model V in the first place.
All in all, iRocker and BlackFin board quality has noticeably nosedived in the last year or so, and I won’t be buying one of their boards again.
