Why the cheap Aqua Marina Breeze is an example of getting what you paid for
The Aqua Marina Breeze, often distinguished as the most affordable adult board offered by Aqua Marina, is an entry-level option that doesn’t compromise on essential SUP attributes. It offers an economically friendly way into the sport of paddleboarding, ideal for beginners or those seeking a low-cost, lightweight alternative for their stand-up paddleboarding needs.
However, the Breeze is not designed to support heavy loads. Its maximum loading weight is 100 kg or 220 lbs, making it better suited for lighter individuals or those who prefer to travel light. Its somewhat limited load capacity could be an essential factor to consider depending on your body weight, gear, or any pets that may be joining you on your SUP adventures.
Moreover, to prevent bending and maintain the board’s optimal performance, it’s recommended to keep the load 15 to 20 kg below the maximum carrying capacity. That means, ideally, you should aim to carry no more than 80-85 kg (176-187 lbs) on the Breeze for the best paddleboarding experience.
Despite being a budget-friendly option, the Aqua Marina Breeze doesn’t compromise on key attributes. The board is relatively thin, aiding its overall lightness and portability, making it a convenient option for easy transport and storage.
Bear in mind that while the Breeze may not support high loads, its design and attributes make it an excellent choice for lighter individuals, beginners, or leisurely paddlers seeking a low-cost entry into the sport. The Aqua Marina Breeze offers a combination of affordability and functionality, making it an appealing choice in the entry-level SUP market.
However, it’s always essential to consider your specific needs and circumstances when choosing a paddleboard, and the Breeze might be just the perfect fit for your light paddleboarding adventures.
Aqua Marina Breeze 2023 Update
The new Aqua Marina Breeze 2023 has been released and its design has completely changed, in line with the whole 2023 looks of the new Aqua Marina collection.
The board is still the smallest board and is still only 12 cm / 4.7″ thick, but the board has become a lot longer than the old version. Where it was 9’0″, the Aqua Marina Breeze is now 9’10” long, which makes a major difference for the balance on this board. The maximum carrying capacity has gone up from 95 kg to 100 kg, so this is still rather low.
Because of the bigger size the board is a bit heavier, but only 0.9 lbs. So it now weighs 17.4lbs / 7.9kg instead of the previous 16.5 lbs.
Pro’s
- Low price for an inflatable
- Upon purchase you get a complete package so you do not have to incur extra costs to start
- Possibility to mount a seat (not included)
- With only 17.4 lbs this is a real lightweight
Cons
- Maximum capacity of 220 lbs, this is often rather low
- Only 4.7″ thick
- The board is not fast enough for the advanced SUP boarder (5+ years experience)

Most suitable for:
As the carrying weight of the board is pretty low, the Aqua Marina Breeze is mostly suited for women and children. This board is especially suitable forΒ starters and people who have less than 5 years of SUP experience. The board is not very fast (partly because it is inflatable) but mainly focuses onΒ sportiness and fun.
Length | Width | Thick | Capacity | Weight board |
9’10 | 30″ | 4.7″ | 220 LBS | 17.4 LBS |
Primary use
All Round / Relaxing
Speed on the water
The board is short and wide, so not suitable for high speeds. More for beginners, slower paddling and relaxing.
Transport
It is very easy to transport this SUP because it is inflatable and light. Even on your back if you go with a bicycle.
Stability
The board is stable on the water, but does bend a bit when you get closer to the weight capacity.
My own experience
To be fair this is one of my least favorite boards I have tested. But to be honest I do not think this is meant for my size. The board was bending through a bit (I weigh roughly 80 kg / 176 lbs) and that is already quite a lot for this board to take. The thickness of 4.7″ is not ideal and in combination with the small size it is not very stable for people over 70 kg / 154 lbs.
This board is less stable so you are more likely to fall in the water than on a 6″ thick board. The maximum carrying capacity is low and as said for my weight it is not enough to prevent the board from bending through. This reduces the speed of the board quite a lot.
However, this inflatable SUP-Board also has many positive aspects. For a very acceptable price you get a complete package which allows you to start right away.
The material the board is made of is the same as the other Aqua Marina boards, so this is just fine. If you are smaller or lightweight this board could surely function well for you and offer you a complete package to get on the water right away.
Finally, we are very pleased with the developments in the field of design. Maybe you remember the Aqua Marina SPK-1? This is the exact same board (it had a name change) and be honest, the Breeze looks a bit better doesn’t it?

In the package
Paddle
The Aqua Marina Breeze stand up paddle board is delivered including an Aqua Marina Sports III Paddle. The Sports III Paddle is an aluminum paddle in 3 parts, that can be height adjusted so it is always on the right length.
Pump
Aqua Marina’s dual action pump gets the job done as quickly as possible by inflating each time you push and lift the handle.
Leash
The board includes a simple Aqua Marina paddle board leash. A straightforward leash without a coil, that is always extended. This version is not as good as the coiled version that is sold separately, but for a free included leash it is good enough.
Backpack
The Aqua Marina Magic Backpack makes it easy to carry your SUP board with you. It really is a basic backpack without luxury soft cover and which is not too sturdy. You can certainly carry your SUP board with you, but you donβt have to put extra stuff in it, otherwise it could tear through. In the long run it is better to buy a higher quality backpack.
Optional accessories (not included)
Restube classic

Aqua Marina Bluedrive Power fin

Difference between an Inflatable board and a Hard board
Advantages Inflatable board
- Easy to take on holiday (even on the plane)
- Easy to store in the winter days
- Much cheaper
- Technology has improved greatly over the past 10 years. For this reason, these boards are now almost hard to distinguish from hard boards
Advantages Hardboard
- More speed, which is important if you are a professional
- Easier to make sharp turns on the water because the board is thinner
- No inflation needed, you can get on the water right away

Conclusion – Should I buy this board?
The Aqua Marina Breeze is only suitable for smaller / lighter people or children that want to start with stand up paddleboarding and have a small budget or are not sure if they will want to continue Stand Up Paddleboarding for a long time.
If you have been stand up paddling for a longer time already or if you are sure you want to continue doing this sport for a long time, I would recommend purchasing a board of better quality that will last longer and is more durable.
For a quick and cheap beginner board, this is a good deal because of the low price. Children could use this board well until they grow taller and the board becomes too lightweight for them.

Dear Tom,
I’m looking for my first sup and considering aqua marina breeze mostly due to the fact that both me and my boyfriend are light weight (53 and 65 kg respectively) and quite a lot of online articles warn to stay away from thicker 6 inch boards if you are light weight and plan to use the sup in more windy/wavy conditions (we mostly plan to use it around the Mediterrean). However, your review of this board makes is seem rather unapeealing, so I’m wandering if maybe the Lidl Mistral might be a better choice?
Hi Magdalena,
I think a 6″ thick board is always a good choice for stability, except if you are going for catching waves and you need to be able to turn more quickly.
If you want to paddle in more relaxing conditions and just tour around I would indeed say the Lidl Mistral is a better choice in this one.
Let me know which board you go for!
Tom
Hello Tom,
Iβm looking for my first sup and I would like to ask your opinion having read your interesting review on Aqua Marina Breeze which I am thinking of buying. Another choice is Aqualust 10′ sup board. Which one would you suggest? Both of them have similar characteristics as far as I can understand; only the aqualust is a bit thicker (H 15cm), so more stable maybe? I am quite light weight (58kg) and would like to use the sup as a kayak as well..
Thank you very much!
Penny
Hi Penny,
Thank you for your message. I have honestly not heard of the Aqualust 10′ SUP board, but it does look decent. Usually I prefer the bigger brands as they have been tested and reviewed more,
so you can be sure of the quality that you receive. 15 cm is usually preferred in this comparison indeed over a 12 cm board, so it might be a good option. Both boards have the option to add
a kayak seat so for that it doesn’t matter. With your weight the Breeze would easily do also though, so either will work just fine for you.
Let me know what you are going for!
Tom
