While not the end-all test for board stiffness, the bend test provides a realistic idea of how the stand-up paddle board will respond to a set quantity of pressure. This can be duplicated evenly from board to board and give us factual information regarding a boardβs willingness to flex under pressure.
The bend test shows us that Nixy focuses on quality materials, as the Newport G4 performed really well.
The NIXY SUPs always have a lovely feel to them, and we have always thought that NIXY doesnβt skimp on the quality of PVC or the drop stitch inner core.
The bend test backs this up, and I also believe the carbon fiber rails add a bit of stiffness to the paddle board β at least an extra layer of PVC on the railings. As mentioned above, the 34β width gives the Monterey more stability than many all-around boards on the market that are usually 32β wide. This makes it an excellent board for beginners to get their feet wet in the world of paddle boarding.
While this SUP is built to go the extra mile in terms of board shape and accessory accessibility, it is still a great board for those who want to paddle more casually. The 34β stable platform allows you to quickly get your sea legs.
I would highly suggest this board to those who live near coastal conditions. Often chop can throw your balance off on thinner boards all-around boards. But with its 34β width and 11β6β length, it offers you that bigger platform to stand on, which is particularly ideal for taller or bigger paddlers.
However, Monterey has going for the tapered nose and tail. So although the middle section is quite wide, it tapers off so that it would still glide well. This board would be perfect for fishing or loading up with lots of gear or the kids.

NIXY G4 Typhoon Hand Pump
The Nixy Typhoon pump is one of the better manual pumps around and is a double-chambered triple action pump.
It also features a knob that you can use to add the velocity of air that is put into the paddle board. As the pumping gets more difficult at around 9-10 PSI, you may want to switch to βStage 3β.

“Disclaimer, this is my first iSUP purchase, but I have gorged myself with YouTube iSUP reviews. I am 6β2β tall and weigh 210 lbs, I purchased this board to go with my 40lb 5yr old daughter in a kayak seat. Worked perfectly. The bag is durable and well build. I greatly appreciated the option to roll it on three wheels or wear as a back pack, although that would be a large back pack. I Inflated/deflated the board at home before our first trip. The three stage pump is fantastic but I would be lying if I didnβt say it is an 8 minute workout that will get your heart up. Be sure those valves are in the up position or all your air will escape when you remove the hose. Deflate and packing up takes less than 5 min and it easily fits back into the bag. The straps and D rings are well placed and my after market kayak seat strapped on perfectly. The fins are well made and easy to install. Note that three fins did make it difficult to turn. Turning on a dime is not an option with all three fins down, but maybe with only one it would turn easier. My daughter and I, some water and gear went on a 1 hr paddle and the board performed great. It is rigid, comfortable on the feet, and glides well. The paddle floats and I see no need to purchase a different one. I love the look, feel and function of this board. At this point I am happy with my purchase, but will come and update my review after some time. I hope this helps you in your decision, I recommend this board…..but again this is my first iSUP purchase.”

The ISLE Pioneer is a decent iSUP for someone looking to get into a mid-range SUP without breaking the bank. Across the board, ISLE offers excellent accessories that make you’re paddling a lot easier, except for the air pump. But in their defense, the optional electric air pumps they offer are one of the best on the market β good news if you don’t mind paying a little extra.
Although not the most portable paddle board on the market, the Isle Pioneer does fold efficiently into the travel bag provided along with all of the included accessories. This allows you to transport the board easily to and from the water, and due to the board’s relatively lightweight, it isn’t too tricky.
