The Goosehill Paddle Board offers a lot of nice things for a low price which makes it great for beginners

Welcome to my review of the Goosehill Paddle Board Sailor 10’6! I have tried out this board and there are a lot of positive aspects about this board. Taking into account that it has a low purchase price in the range of the Aqua Marina Fusion and Vapor and it also offers a complete package you can’t really go wrong here.

Besides the board this board also has a paddle, pump, backpack, leash, fin and repair kit included in the package. This makes it very complete for this low purchase price. In the review below I will take a closer look at the board and its performance, the accessories and I will also take into account other reviews of this board.

For the price of currently $369,99 this is a very good deal, if it was $20 cheaper this would have surely ranked high in my Best Cheap Paddle Boards Guide. So for beginners this is very much recommended – unless you also like to sit down and kayak on this board. Read my full review below to find out more about this great board for beginners.

As you can see the Goosehill Paddle Board can take quite some weight without bending in the middle – Good quality!

The Goosehill Paddle Board is most suitable for:

The Goosehill Paddle Board offers a complete package with all the basic accessories that is aimed at beginners at Stand Up Paddling. If you want to start out with this water sport and try it for the first time, you don’t want to spend a lot of money. But what you also don’t want is to spend money on a board that is so bad and unstable that you will start disliking paddling from the start.

That is where the Goosehill Paddle Board comes in. This board is perfect for all-around use for beginners and offers a stable platform to go out on the water. To start out this is just perfect and it offers everything you need.

However, if you are aiming on touring or wilder waters, this board might not be the best choice for you. Also if you like to sit down and kayak this board is unfortunately lacking the D-rings for that purpose, so you can not attach a kayak seat to this Goosehill Paddle Board.

The Goosehill Paddle Board indicates a maximum carrying capacity of 440 lbs / 200 kg, which is a lot for a board of this size and price. As you have seen above I can sit on this board easily without it bending through, but I think that the max should be around 353 lbs / 160 kg to be more realistic. Though I haven’t tried it out with two people, if someone reading this has done that let me know what your experience is!

The size of 10’6″ x 32″ x 6″ / 320 x 81 x 15 cm is a good average size for a beginners all-around board, which offer stability but also a bit of agility to turn. This board does not have a kick pad on the deck, which does makes turning a bit harder though. The thickness of the board is good and it feels very stiff and safe on the water without having to be afraid of it bending through.

You can see the board offers good quality and they paid attention to the quality and design of the board

This board and the included package offer great value for a low purchase price on which you will be able to enjoy the water right away. Alright not right away, after a bit of inflating of course 😉. Which to be honest was quite hard with the supplied pump. It does have dual action but it felt heavier (or maybe I am getting weak from sitting too much around the office).

When you see and hold the board and accessories it feels like a good product that has been taken care of well, unlike cheap boards I have held before. I would recommend this to all beginners in Stand Up Paddle Boarding.

If you are looking for a cheaper paddle board to first try out the sport and want a complete package, the Goosehill Paddle Board is a very good choice.

Speed on the water
The board is designed for every paddler with an all-around purpose, so speed is not the main focus. Normal speed for paddling.

Transport
The board has a weight of 20.5 LBS / 9.3 kg and is very light to carry around in the supplied backpack.

Stability
The 32″ width makes the board more stable than an average 30″ width board, which is good for beginners to start on. The 6″ thickness and the sturdy material offer even more stability and support.

My own experience

The board and the accessories looked very nice and shiny when I unpacked the board. I was happy to see the board had high quality, as it is hard to know what to expect when you try out a cheaper paddle board.

I tried this board out on the water, which is now a bit more crowded since the weather got better and the lockdown is mostly over here. Still I managed to go out and have fun on this board and test it out thoroughly.

As said I am impressed with the quality look of the package full of accessories, which was already more than I expected. Even though I should have known it would be good seeing all the amazing Amazon reviews, which I will refer to later.

After I unpacked everything I started with inflating the Goosehill Paddle Board. It took me about 6 minutes to inflate this board to 15 PSI, which is a decent pace! Like I said before it felt quite heavy for me to inflate, but that might be because I’m out of shape right now.

The Goosehill Paddle Board was very easy to carry to the water as the board only weighs 20.5 LBS / 9.3 kg, which is very light compared to some heavy monsters I have tested before like the Bluefin Cruise Carbon. Of course there is a big difference between these boards in price and quality, so you cannot really compare these with eachother.

What I probably liked the least of all about this package was the paddle that is included. The 3-piece aluminum paddle is quite heavy and it felt like the handle wasn’t completely stable after attachment, which makes it a lot harder to paddle.

The bungee cord on the front makes it easy to take along some luggage on the way. Always take some cold water and possibly some food along in a dry bag when you go out, just to make sure you stay hydrated when on the water (yes, a strange combination!).

The complete package of the Goosehill Padel Board laid out in the grass for you

The big grip deck offers good traction and it was easy to maintain my grip while paddling around the lake. The deck is nice and colorful and big enough to not slip on the sides of it.

The board is nice for casual paddling, but because it has a more round than pointy shape it is not so great in case you are aiming for higher speeds. The three fin system on the bottom of the tail made sure I stayed in a straight line when paddling. The big fin is detachable, the small ones are not. The attachment of the big fin is a bit flimsy, no US-fin box system, and could be improved in a future version in my opinion.

This is a very good option for beginners on the market and it is available at a very competitive price. I would recommend this board for any beginner that does not want to spend a lot of many to get started right away with a complete package.

If you have more money to spend and want to get started on the best of the best you can check out the Bluefin Cruise Carbon instead, but if you are looking for a cheap option that allows you to get started paddling quickly then the Goosehill Paddle Board is a great board.

Important features

Goosehill Paddle Board Sailor 10'6 Review 9

Setup

  • Strong, laminated layer to keep the board lightweight and durable at the same time
  • The EVA-footpad is brushed and softened
  • 5 D-rings. Bungee cord on the front and one for attaching your leash
  • One comfortable grip handle for carrying in the middle of the board

Fins
The Goosehill Paddle Board has 2 small fins and one big fin, of which the big fin is removable. The fins are of high quality, but the attachment system for the big fin is not the most convenient and would have been better with a US fin box.

Goosehill Paddle Board Sailor 10'6 Review 11

Material
Strong, laminated layer to keep the board lightweight and durable at the same time. Unfortunately there is not much information about this that is more specific, but there are no complaints about the durability of this board.

Inflate / deflate
The Goosehill Paddle Board d is inflated in only 6 minswith the supplied Double Action Hand Pump and probably even faster with a better pump. The board can be inflated up to 15 PSI, but feels stiff at 12 PSI too.

Goosehill Paddle Board Sailor 10'6 Review 13

Warranty
Goosehill offers a 30-day money back guarantee, which clearly isn’t very long compared to the 5 years that bigger brands offer. However there have been no complaints about the quality or returns online yet.

Design
This board has a nice blue, black and white design with a deck pad. It looks very fresh but also has a basic look and feel to it.

In the package

Paddle

The paddle that is included with the Goosehill Paddle Board is an aluminum height adjustable 3-Piece adjustable, which is honestly not the best quality and the handle feels a bit loose. It’s ok for getting started, but eventually you will want to replace this one.

Pump

The Goosehill Paddle Board comes with a double action hand pump, so it inflates both on the upstroke and the downstroke. As I managed to inflate it in about 6 minutes it is decent, but I don’t know if it’s the pump, the board or me in this case.

The pump has a clear pressure gauge so you can see exactly how far you are inflating your paddle board. The board can be inflated up to 15 PSI, but at 12 PSI it feels pretty rigid already.

This pump handle has a nice ergonomic grip on the handle and on the foot, so even if you went for a quick swim before you will not lose grip with wet hands or wet feet. The pump easily fits into the backpack and is very light, so easily transportable.

Leash

The Goosehill Paddle Board leash that is included is a coiled leash, which I have praised many times before because it only extends if you actually fall in the water. So it is never in your way when you are paddling. The leash can easily be connected to the D-ring on the back of the board.

The neoprene padding on the inside of the Velcro ankle attachment makes it feel comfortable around your ankle and will not start irritating.

Backpack

The Goosehill Paddle Board backpack is very comfortable and has extra back and strap padding on the straps. The backpack has a paddle holder on the side to easily carry along your paddle.

With the waist strap you can make sure your Goosehill Paddle Board stays in place, even though it is quite easy to carry along because of the low weight it has. On one side it even has a carry handle in case you want to carry it that way.

Also need a small dry bag to take some of your things along? Read more about dry bags here.

Difference between an Inflatable board and a Hard board

Advantages Inflatable board

  • Easy to take on holiday (even on the plane)
  • Easy to store in the winter days
  • Much cheaper
  • Technology has improved greatly over the past 10 years. For this reason, these boards are now almost hard to distinguish from hard boards

Advantages Hardboard

  • More speed, which is important if you are a professional
  • Easier to make sharp turns on the water because the board is thinner
  • No inflation needed, you can get on the water right away

Other reviews of the Goosehill Paddle Board online

The Goosehill Paddle Board is a popular Stand Up Paddle board, which means it has a lot of reviews online.

A short overview of some of these reviews below:

iSUPworld.com: “This board is an excellent price and although it doesn’t have any extra flashy features such as extra D-rings, back bungees, deluxe accessories, etc., it is stable and easy to ride and will provide hours of fun on the water.

It gets great reviews and if you’re just starting out and want an easy yet affordable board to learn on, the Goosehill Sailor inflatable paddle board will deliver.”

Standuppaddleboards.com: “Overall the Goosehill 10’6″ Sailor is a nicely priced middle market board that offers a high level of stability and durability without breaking the bank. Perfect for recreational paddling for paddlers of all levels. The board is very well constructed and backed by a generous 3 year warranty for some added piece of mind. Definitely worth looking at if you’re in the market.”

Amazon.com: Rating 4.8/5. “Despite it’s lighter-weight design, it felt very sturdy and held up well in winds and small waves. The board easily accommodated two teenagers. The paddle adjustment for height is very easy to use and the paddle coating made it comfortable to grip. The board is very well-made and feels like it will hold up for a long time. The whole unit and accessories fit in the accompanying backpack case. Overall, this seems like an excellent SUP for the price.” – Based on 378 customer reviews as on 10th of June 2021.

Conclusion – Should I buy the Goosehill Paddle Board?

For this budget the Goosehill Paddle Board can complete very well with other boards in this price category. It is rather comparable to a board like the Aqua Marina Fusion, but with better availability in the US. You receive a complete package with everything you need included which makes this a very good paddle board for beginners.

The board has a great performance in its price category, but is not comparable to the best Stand Up Paddle boards simply because it is a completely different league and price range. In my opinion this is the American answer to the Aqua Marina Fusion board.

As you have seen above there are many advantages for beginners when purchasing this board. The board offers a good quality and stiff platform for going out on the water. For a low price it includes a complete package with an aluminum paddle, double action hand pump, backpack and coiled leash and 3 fins (of which the big one removable).

When you want to get started with Stand Up Paddling and you are looking for a cheap board that works decent and has a complete package then this is a good pick. Are you more advanced in paddle boarding and looking for an upgrade? Then I would still recommend to look at my guide for best Stand Up Paddle Boards.

What are your thoughts about the Goosehill Paddle Board? Have you heard of this brand or tried it out yet?

Which boards do you think could compete with this board at this price range? I’m wondering what your experiences are and if you agree with the downsides I named?
