So, pool basketball hoops! If you have been a reader of my blog for quite some time, you’re probably familiar with water polo as I have talked about it before. Basically, water basketball is just a combination of water polo and of course, basketball. It is usually done in a swimming pool and can be played as a recreational or competitive activity.
Most water basketball tournaments are at a local and national level so I understand if you have never heard of it before. However, it’s perfect as a pool activity with your friends or family since it’s a fairly easy sport and the equipment is readily available online. That being said, let’s talk more about water basketball and the items you need such as the ball, but most importantly, the polo basketball hoop.
This sport was introduced to the world fairly recently and have only widely played in September 2003 in Tasmania and was recognized by the Italian Federation of Basketball in 2005 as a form of basketball.
People in the Netherlands have been playing it since the 70s, though. They hold regular tournaments and organize national championships. The winners with have the chance to play for the official Dutch Waterbasketbal championship title. The game is also played in other European countries such as Slovenia and Hungary.
Water basketball games can vary from one country to another. Some play with a pool basketball hoop that includes a backboard while some play with a floating basket. Interestingly, the number of players per team can also vary in different places. But generally, it’s us 5 to 6 players per team with a maximum of 4 additional substitute players.
Although there are many versions of the sport, the general objective is basically the same. All you have to do to win is to shoot the ball as many times as possible when it’s in your team’s possession.
Things You Need To Play Water Basketball
Just like with regular basketball, all you really need is a good quality ball and a sturdy pool basketball hoop to play this sport. A few of my recommendations when it comes to durable balls are from the brands Dunnrite, GoSports, and BotaBee. The only thing you have to remember when choosing the right ball is its sturdiness and gripping texture.
Now let’s move on to what I think is the interesting part: the pool basketball hoops. When it comes to water basketball, there are different types of pool basketball hoops you can find on the market.
As I mentioned before, this game can be played as a recreational or competitive sport. That’s why there are a variety of different ones like floating and inflatable pool basketball hoops for kids and heavy-duty well-made pool basketball hoops for professionals.
