Aqua Marina Triton Review

No king of the ocean, but a nice versatile board

The Aqua Marina Triton is a well designed board in between a recreational board and a touring board. Its size of 11’2″ long and 32″ wide is not very common and makes this board suitable for people who want to combine these activities.

Most suitable for:

The Aqua Marina Triton feels very stable and is an upgrade compared to the well known Aqua Marina Fusion. I like the redesign of the board to make it look more sleek and modern. Because of the bigger platform and the maximum carrying capacity of 150 kg you can take a child or dog. This board is especially suitable for starters and people who have less than 5 years of SUP experience. The board is not very fast (partly because it is inflatable) but mainly focuses on sportiness and fun.

All Round / Yoga / Touring / Relaxing

Speed on the water
The board has a nice glide, not as great as a touring or racing paddle board but better than the average all-around board.

Transport
It is very easy to transport this paddle board because it is inflatable and light. Even on your back if you go with a bicycle.

Stability
The board is stable on the water and the weight capacity of 330 lbs is even enough to take a pet or a child along.

My own experience

The Aqua Marina Triton feels very stable and as said I do like the new design of the board and the blue color. I understand that there’s a gap in between all-around boards and touring boards that the Triton tries to fill. It does so pretty successfully, but if you truly want to go for touring more often I would still recommend to purchase the Aqua Marina Atlas board instead.

As a beginner, this board may do better for you because of the larger platform than the Aqua Marina Fusion or Vapor, so it is easier to keep balance. You also have space to carry extra stuff or to take a child or pet, if you’re light even a second person could join you.

The board has a thickness of 6″, a width of 32″ and a length of 11’2″. So as said in between a standard all-around board and a touring board. I would recommend this board mostly for beginners who are looking into touring but are not totally sure about doing so yet. This could be a great starter board for you.

The Aqua Marina Triton inflatable paddle Board has the same advantage as almost every other Aqua Marina paddle board. For a very acceptable price you get a complete package which allows you to start right away.

I preferred this model mostly for lakes or rivers, for touring on wilder waters I prefer an even bigger platform like the previously mentioned Aqua Marina Atlas to make sure I will not lose balance because of the waves. But if you do take this board on the ocean, don’t get too far away from the coast.

The stiffness of the board is good with the standard 15 PSI pressure and I like the big diamond grooving foot pad so even with wet feet you have good grip. The tail kick pad  made it easy to lift the board a bit in the back so turns were easier than on a board that lacks this addition.

Paddle

The Aqua Marina Triton stand up paddle board is delivered including an Aqua Marina Sports III Paddle. The Sports III Paddle is an aluminum paddle in 3 parts, that can be height adjusted so it is always on the right length. If you really want to go for longer tours consider getting a fiberglass or carbon paddle as an addition.

Pump

The Aqua Marina Double Action Pump makes sure the job gets done as soon as possible, as it inflates both when the pump is pulled up and when it is pressed down.

Leash

The board includes a simple Aqua Marina paddle board leash. A straightforward leash without a coil, that is always extended. This version is not as good as the coiled version that is sold separately, but for a free included leash it is good enough.

Backpack

The Aqua Marina Magic Backpack makes it easy to carry your SUP board with you. It really is a basic backpack without luxury soft cover and which is not too sturdy. You can certainly carry your SUP board with you, but you don’t have to put extra stuff in it, otherwise it could tear through. In the long run it is better to buy a higher quality backpack.
